DAY TWENTY-TWO: books.

I would officially like to announce that at this point in the semester homework has taken over my life. So much. All the time.

I have also come to the realization that if I can't do one thing everyday (*cough, *cough, this blog) that is OK. Every few days is good.

I just realized today how many books I am currently reading. Simultaneously. This list does not include text books that I read excerts and do research in. Ok here goes.

Son of Witch by Gregory Macquire

Visual Chronicles by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino

Living Out Loud by Keri Smith

A History of Valentines by Ruth Webb Lee

Gender, Nature, and Nurture by Richard A. Lippa

Same Difference: How genter myths are hurting our relationships, our children, and our jobs by Rosalind Barnett and Caryl Rivers

Happy reading to everyone else enjoying books and lucky for you if you have no homework!

DAY TWENTY-ONE-long time no post.

Well it's four days since my last post. Been wrapped up in homework and work and generally things I am not too fond of having to do. They leave little time for being creative and spending time reading and outdoors and stuff. Still spend too much time sleeping. It's not that I don't like it (obviously I do that why I spend so much time doing it) but I would rather be living than sleeping, even if by living I mean simply walking or reading. I need a motivater in my life. I am self motivating, but only about certain things and only so many at once. I need someone to whisper in my ear and remind me of those other things. A fairy godmother would be nice.

DAY TWENTY--target love <3

I love Target. I think everyone does. Cheap. Cute. Well Designed. These are the goodies I picked up there today in addition to pictures I sent from Yahoo. A polka dot dust pan/broom, 2 orange dish scrubbies, yellow recipe cards (which I plan to transfer my recipies to tonight), a turquiose bracelet, big skull print hoop earrings, an acrylic alpha stamps set, multi-colored dotted packaging tape...all for $16!!! Love it. Going to take tonight to figure out the rest of the next few days. Dave is out of town on work so I am on my own. Rented Marie Antionette, Trust the Man, and Running With Scissors. Going to enjoy my new bed, watch movies, and create.

DAY NINETEEN--a day dedicated to creativity

I got my new books in the mail yesterday. Living Out Loud by Keri Smith and Visual Chronicles by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino. SO excited. And I got the bonus issue of Creating Keepsakes! What a great day for mail! Today I have been alternating reading all three and doing some of the activities in Keri Smith's book. So much fun. I haven't turned on the TV once today. It is sunny and warm and breezy and the lilies my mom and dad got me smell wonderful. Perfect Day.

One of the exercises was to cut 1 1/2" squares out of a magazine. Start from the cover and using a craft knife cut down as deep as you can. Then go through the squares and choose what you like. Simple enough. I did this and put them into a journal I started today to practice all of these creative exercises in. The little boy, the black and white, and the ivy are my favorties.

Enjoy the day. I know I am :)

DAY SEVENTEEN--ahhh...

Didn't get a chance to write yesterday...I was too busy sleeping on my new mattress!!!! We finally got it, and oh man is it comfy. Wish I didn't have such a busy day today so I could enjoy laying in it. But I have to leave the house in 4 minutes so I better get going. Pictures of the new bed tomorrow:)

DAY SIXTEEN--i did it

Today is an 'I did it' day. I finished both my projects and turned them in this morning. I scrapped a page last night like I said I would about my mommy and me. I have been writing for sixteen days on this blog. I am doing laundry and having a nice evening with Dave. Can't wait for tomorrow. We don't have anything big planned...just quality time.

DAY FIFTEEN--inspiration and intimidation

Lately I have been feeling over inspired...is that possible? I have so much STUFF going on in my head that I want to do and try that I get intimidated and don't know where to start. I try to just jump right in but it hasn't been working lately. For example: I have dying to scrapbook lately. I have lots of projects to start and ideas to work off of. Tonight would be the perfect night since Dave is gone at work. I could work in my studio, but I really want to watch a movie too so I was going to get some stuff and move it out onto the living room floor. I came in to get my stuff and again was intimidated by all the inspiring things I have and didn't know where to start. I mean I can't take it all out there? Should I just grab a few things and see where that takes me? Sounds like a good idea. I guess getting on here and writing about it helped. I knew this blog was good for something. Well I was going to put some pictures of my overinspirational space up but cannot find them :) Oh well.

DAY FOURTEEN--a productive weekend

Don't you just love that feeling you get when you have a really productive day? Well for me that was my whole weekend. I worked all night Friday through to Saturday morning. Then Dave and I went downtown to the Phoenix Art Museum. Then we came home and made a good dinner. This morning we took Lou for an hour long walk. We kicked butt in cleaning the house. Went grocery shopping. Made super yummy chicken pot pie and watched the Grammy's. Makes me tired just thinkin' about it. But, not tired enough :) I am going to stay up and watch a movie and make project folders for the stuff I am working on. Just trying out another method of organization trying to find what works for me. Hoping it will make creating even easier :)

So like I said I went to the art museum. It was technically for a school project, but there was a lot of good stuff there. The Thorne miniature rooms are my favorite and coincidentally that is what my project is on. Below are a few pictures of my favorite rooms. They are ones I took myself so they are sort of dark. The first one is the 16th c. Italian Dining Room I chose for my project.

DAY THIRTEEN--sick and tired

I am sick and tired of having a sore back and neck and of being exhausted from lack of a good mattress! I know it is coming to me soon, but not soon enough to solve my problems right this instant. Is it really possible for someone to be well rested after only 6-7 hours of sleep? I hope to find out soon.

DAY TWELVE--midnight movie

I am watching a movie tonight that I recorded on DVR ( if you don't pay the extra $15 a month, DO IT, it's worth it). Steel Magnolias, now I know most everyone has seen this movie as it came out in 1989, yes eighteen years ago. I was only 6, but I have seen it many times over, and watching it alone with a glass of wine and a bowl of popcorn has been truely satisfying. I mean, an armidillo cake, 6"-8" hair dos, and blush and bashful? It's girly in the girliest of ways, but it celebrates life simplicities and women and what more could you want?

DAY ELEVEN--good morning world

Don't you just love those days when you have a really good morning? A good hot cup of coffee, some Nora Jones (who has a new CD out that I need to get, or I could buy it on iTunes, hmm) reading inspirational books and blogs, and sunshine :) Good morning this morning.

However, not because I got to sleep on a new mattress. We temporarily got waylaid in that venture and will have to get in next week, but on the bright side at least we can still get it.

"the real news of our lives is not in the newspapers. we must chronicle our own adventures and achievements, our own brilliant observations and our comic relief, our best friends, and our greatest embarassments."--this quote is from a book I found by way of blog today called Visual Chronicles.

Have a super duper day! :)

DAY TEN--new hair

Ahhh...I love the feeling of a new hair cut! I feel light and sexy and stylish. I have needed a hair cut for a while now, REALLY BAD...and now all that dead hair is gone. Also today Dave and I are going mattress shopping! I am so looking forward to a really good nights sleep. To be honest anything has got to be better than what we have now. So my plan for tomorrow is to wake up well rested and looking beautiful.

Got the new issue of AEZine for this week today and it deals with writing a personal creative manifesto. I will be working on in for a few days so look for that post later in the week.

Here is a link to a cool website I visited today Their Circular Life.

DAY EIGHT--english 102 stinks

Well, it is 12:30 am and I am still not done with my paper for English 102. That's right I am a senior in 102. I haven't stayed up this late doing homework in a few years. And I am not done! I am only half way there. I must sleep though and refocus in the morning. Maybe I am overanalyzing or just being a perfectionist. Sometimes I wish I could just throw together a crappy paper, even an average one, and be ok with it. But I just don't feel right not handing in my best work. I don't always feel this way, just when it comes to papers.

DAY EIGHT--food and fun

Yup, I skipped another day :) Oh well. Yesterday Dave and I spent the day cleaning and cooking. Chris and Anne came over for the Super Bowl (which for me is just a great excuse to make food and drink beer). We made salsa, guacamole, a pasta salad with lots of yummy meats and cheeses and then a hot dog bar. Dave grilled the dogs and we had all the fixings. We had chili, cheese, onions, mustard, ketchup, grilled potatoes and peppers, marinara, pickles, celery salt and tomatoes for Chicago style...mmm they were good, and we have a TON of left-overs which means I don't have to cook for a couple days. Today is catch up on homework day, since I didn't do as much as I should have over the weekend. Hoping to scrap a page later today, no promises though.

DAY SEVEN--peanut butter and pop tart sandwiches.

OH MY JESUS...Dave made the best snack today. A pop-tart (apple strusel flavor) and peanut butter sandwich...meant to be washed down with a cold glass of milk. So sweet, and so chewy that I could only handle two bites...but oh were they heaven.

On a second note I created a page today about what Dave and I have come to call Weekend Wednesday. Every month or two we have sworn to take off a Wednesday to have a day filled with fun and adventure. The envelope on the page holds a one page record of each one we have :)

DAY SIX--post # 2

I wanted to post a scrapbook page I finished today about why I scrapbook. It's the first page I have done in a while and I am on a creative role so watch out!!!

DAY SIX--a million things

Ok...so if you look at the dates you might realize that I did in fact skip a day, but you know what I decided...
it is OK
This is a philosophy and phrase that has been made popular by the talented Ali Edwards and I think that it is a great one...to read more check out her blog {A}.

I have about a million things I want to write and post about today, so I will probably be making posts throughout the day...in my head this will make up for those that are lacking.

Number one: I was SUPER tired this morning and had a tough time getting up...I was laying in bed reading about Greek art for a paper I need to write and the sun was coming in the window at the perfect angle. This then inspired me to try and take a photo of "my morning" like the ones on 3191. Here are the two that I took.

Number Two: AEZine is a weekly online newsletter that I receive from Ali Edwards and she always has some sort of topic or theme or the week and a little challenge to go along with it. Now that I have a place to post my answers to the challenge I will begin doing them. They usually deal with scrapbooking and being a life artist in general, and the one from last week asked about what my creating essentials were. Then this weeks was what is the "good stuff" that you use for creating. So below are my two lists.

Essentials
1. White, black, and kraft cardstock--I use all of these all of time. I usually use them as my "blank canvas" if you will. They allow the colors of the photos or other elements that I am working with to really stand out.

2. Paint--I never really used to use this much, but it has definitely become an essential of mine over the past few months and I don't see it leavin any time soon. Any color acrylic paint (haven't tried watercoulor yet) will do. For stamps, photo mats, borders, on transparencies...the possibilites are endless.

3. Fiskars paper trimmer--I have the old school gray one and I have been using it for about 5-6 years. It does everything I need it to do so I haven't purchased a new one, just replaced the blades.

4. Hermafix tab dispenser--It is strange how once you start using an adhesive you just kind of stick with it. I haven't tried a lot of the other ones out there like the dots or tape runners. I like the tabs but now that I get to thinking about it a runner would cover all edges of my photos and make sure they were really stuck down. Note to self: try new adhesive.

5. Gluestick--Now this is one adhesive I will never give up. Works great on small stuff and thin paper. Also great for covering chipboard and book covers. I think it is a given that if you are a crafter of any kind the gluestick is your friend.

6. Ink--Again, any brand and any color. I use it for stamps and to ink the edges of things. But lookin at my layouts I use it on almost everyone and that makes it an essential.

7. Photos--This one is obvious, but lately I have been experimenting with layouts that have no photos. However, they are still essential. They capture the moment and are a great way to share a slice of my life.

8. My Creative Notebook--This is a binder that I just recently put together. It now holds a section for sketches, one for journaling, one for techniques, one to just take notes on the everyday, my current issue of Creating Keepsakes, and my doodle notepad. This is where it all begins and I don't know what I would do without a place to put all my ideas.

Good Stuff

1. Rub-ons: I buy them in a variety of everything. I like them because they can go seamlessly over pictures, paper, embellishments, pretty much everything. What I don't like is when I try a new type of rub-on from a different company and they don't rub off!! So frusterating!

2. 7 Gypsies: I am putting them in their own category because lately I am using a ton of the 97% complete stuff. Word stickers, tags, rub-ons...all kinds of goodies.

3. Ephemera: I used a lot of other things I collected from certain places along with my pictures when I first started...then it because cheesey for me, but now I am finding more creative ways to work them into my layouts. By ephemera I mean tags, newspaper clippings, ticket stubs...that type of stuff.

4. Patterned Paper: More specifically dots and stripes. dots and stripes. I can't get enough. I love that they aren't themed and can be used on anything, as a whole sheet or just scraps.

5. Thin Point Sharpie: I never used to hand journal on my pages. I thought it looked messy. So because of that I didn't journal at all. Then I got into typing everything out, which, don't get me wrong, I still like to do, but now I will write out long stories by hand. I have come to love my writing which many of you scrappers know takes time.

6. My Buckets-O-Goodies: I really don't know how else to describe them. I have like three or four little containers filled with a wide variety of whatever. Bits and pieces. I go through them for inspiration and to find little accents for my pages. They are unorganized in an organized way though.

DAY FIVE--oops!

Ok ok...I forgot to write yesterday. I was tired and had a headache and jumped into bed early. I would right now to make up for it, but I am off to school...geology test today...yippy! So this is for yesterday...and I will write for today later tonight. I promise something somewhat interesting. :)
